Between Waves: S16 Review, S17 Preview

Written by Equipe 44 at 13:46 28/6-2011

  Overview

After an interesting string of results during the course of the season, we finish the sporting year in the last spots of the Top Division, our best position ever for a season ending. Wajeeh had a very positive year, achieving 11 results and winning a GC, a SC and finishing in the top-9 in all the tours he took part (with the exception of the Nederlandse Tour, where he got injured in the early stages). His one-day race results are not as positive, though.

Nevertheless, this can be considered Wajeeh's and the team's best season ever. Our main objective for S17 will be the consolidation of the team's position, completing a whole season in the Top Division. Still, we would like to see Wajeeh defending his results in the Zyte Division tours. As these 2 plans clash we might ignore this and let ourselves "go down" to the Zyte again.

  Transfers

S16 saw the signing of Gavino Zonzini, who looks a good bet for the Germany Tour YC if we can get there. However, we are having some trouble getting enough funding to train him. Lofsdalen GP will be his first taste of leadership.

Donzel Menicucci is the other young talent we hired. We are looking to train him after Zonzini maxes. But we might leave that to season 18.

Bronislav Mamine was hired to give us some results in the several TTs we'll face. But his tendence to underachieve may put him in a delicate situation within the team. He must perform decently until half-season.

  S17 Planning

  Tours:

  - The Volta ao Porto is near, but the possibility of taking part of it seems unlikely.
  - We will not take part in the Tweedaagse van Antwerpen.
  - Our participation in the Cymru Taith is dependant on our results in the previous weeks.
  - We are looking to join the Perm Tour for the first time.
  - Wajeeh will try to defend his crown in the Essex Tour.
  - In any case, we will not take part in the Nederlandse Tour.
  - For the Germany Tour we would like to field Wajeeh for the GC and Zonzini for the YC.

We have no particular objectives for the Classics.

Our targets for the first 10 days*:

  1. Kriterium Landeck (Wajeeh)
  3. Giro di Firenze (Wajeeh)
  4. Rome TT (Mamine)
  7. Lofsdalen GP (Zonzini)
  9. Haugesund Rundtur (Wajeeh)

  *Unplanned changes are obviously possible.
